The ages of three and four are characterized by an explosion of language and a growing desire for social connection. At this stage, children move from "parallel play" (playing near each other) to collaborative play (playing with each other). They are developing the emotional intelligence required to share, negotiate, and understand the perspectives of their peers. Their curiosity has evolved into the "Why?" phase, as they seek to understand the mechanisms of the world around them.
In our N2 and P1 classes, we utilize an "Eclectic" curriculum that blends the best of Montessori practical life skills with engaging Thematic Learning. This dual approach ensures that children are both capable in their daily lives and inspired in their intellectual pursuits.
Our thematic units integrate science, art, and literacy, allowing children to explore topics like "The Community" or "The Seasons" through hands-on projects. This makes learning meaningful and relevant to their daily experiences. Simultaneously, our bilingual focus intensifies, with dedicated phonics and Mandarin sessions that build the foundational reading skills necessary for primary school readiness.
The day begins with thematic exploration, where children work together on projects that spark their imagination. This is followed by structured literacy sessions using multisensory e-teaching tools that make phonics and character recognition enjoyable rather than stressful.
Outdoor play is a non-negotiable part of our rhythm, providing children with the physical movement they need to develop coordination and build courage. We also continue to emphasize practical life activities, ensuring that self-discipline and responsibility become habitual as the children grow more capable.
A key focus of our day is the introduction of practical life activities. Toddlers learn to "help themselves"—learning to tidy up their toys, wash their hands, and manage their personal belongings. These small acts of independence build the self-esteem that is crucial at this age.
Parents often report that their children become significantly more expressive and inquisitive at home. You may notice your child using more descriptive language in both English and Mandarin, and demonstrating a greater ability to manage their emotions during social interactions. Their "invention of self" becomes more visible as they take pride in their work and their growing ability to navigate social challenges with kindness.
